MSJVM files are removed when you update a Windows XP SP1 distribution point with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (884906)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you use the update.exe /integrate:file_path command to update a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) distribution point with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM) files in Windows XP SP1 are removed from the distribution point.

Note The Windows XP SP2 features and components are included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, we strongly recommend that you create a separate distribution point for Windows XP SP2. Installing Windows XP SP2 from a separate distribution point does not remove the MSJVM from client computers.
