Dynamic HTML effects

Dynamic HTML (DHTML) effects let you animate almost anything on a page. This may include text, paragraphs, pictures, buttons, and marquees. An effect is started by an event such as clicking a mouse, loading a page, or pointing to a specific piece of text. FrontPage 2000 DHTML effects can be found in the user interface and they provide professional results without the knowledge of scripting.

To animate text by using the Fly-Right effect, follow these steps:
  1. Select the text that you want to apply the effect to.
  2. On the Format menu, click Dynamic HTML Effects.
  3. On the DHTML Effect toolbar, select the Page Load event from the On list.
  4. On the Apply list, click the Fly In effect.
  5. On the Choose Settings list, click From right.
  6. Click Close in the upper-right corner of the toolbar.

Page transitions

Page transitions provide a simple way to animate text on a page. To add attention to a specific word or topic, you could apply a different formatting style by using the On MouseOver event. When the visitor of a site points to the text, the font, the point size, and the color of the text changes. FrontPage 2000 has 10 different Page transition effects that can be applied by using the DHTML toolbar.

To apply a page transition to a page, follow these steps:
  1. In Page view, open the page that you want to display the transition effect.
  2. On the Format menu, click Page Transition.
  3. In the Event box, click the event that will trigger the transition effect.
  4. In the Transition Effect box, click to select the effect that you want.
  5. In the Duration box, set the length of time that you want the effect to last.
  6. Click OK.

Hover buttons

Hover buttons can be used to display pictures, play sound, or glow. The properties for a hover button are specified in the Hover Button Properties dialog box. Information such as a caption, a hyperlink reference, color, and effect are set there. For more advanced features, click Custom and specify files for sound or a custom background image for the button.

To insert a hover button that plays sound, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Component, and then click Hover Button.
  2. In the Hover Button Properties dialog box, specify a caption in the Button Text box.
  3. Click Custom.
  4. To specify a sound file location in the On click box, click Browse.
  5. Click OK to close the Custom dialog box.
  6. Click OK to exit the Hover Button Properties dialog box.

Banner ads

Banner ads provide an easy way to advertise company information. A Banner ad displays a timed sequence of pictures by using a transition effect between pictures. This is similar to the effect that you might experience in a PowerPoint presentation. You can use up to eight pictures in the Banner ad. The Banner ad also lets you create a link to other pages in or outside the Web site.

To insert a Banner ad, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Component, and then click Banner Ad Manager.
  2. Select the transition effect that you want to use between images from the Transition Effect list.
  3. Specify an elapsed time for your images in the Show each picture for (seconds) box.
  4. If you want to link your Banner ad to another page, specify the URL in the Link to box.
  5. In the Banner Ad Manager Properties dialog box, click Add.
  6. Locate your image, click it, and then click OK.
  7. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all the images that you want to include are added.
  8. Click OK.

Marquee

A marquee is a scrolling text message. This is a great way to attract attention to a page. You can customize the properties of the marquee to repeat your message for a specified number of times, apply a background color for the designated text, or specify one of three marquee behaviors. The three marquee behaviors are scroll, slide, and alternate.

To insert a marquee behavior, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Component, and then click Marquee.
  2. In the Text box, type the text that you want to appear in the marquee.
  3. Click one of the following options for Behavior:
    • Scroll
    • Slide
    • Alternate
  4. Specify the appropriate settings for the following radio buttons:
    • Direction
    • Speed
    • Align with Text
  5. Click OK.

Sound effects

Sound effects provide another way to enhance your Web site and to attract the attention of a visitor. There are two ways to insert sound in FrontPage 2000. You can use the hover button, or you can specify a sound file in the Page Properties dialog box.

To insert a sound effect by using the Page Properties dialog box, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the page that you want to insert sound for, and then click Page Properties.
  2. In the Page Properties dialog box, click the General tab.
  3. In the Background section, specify a location in the Location box.
  4. In the Loop box, specify the number of times that you want your sound file to play when the page is loaded.

    Note If you want your sound file to play continuously, click to select the Forever check box.
  5. Click OK.
Some browsers may not support DHTML. Pages that contain DHTML may not be displayed correctly. You can adjust your Web for browser compatibility by selecting the appropriate settings on the Compatibility tab of the Page Option dialog box.
