"Not digitally signed" may appear in the Digital Signer field for the device driver on a Windows 2000-based computer (884201)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Device Manager to view the Driver tab for device properties, "Not digitally signed" may appear in the Digital Signer field for the device driver. This behavior occurs even though the device driver is digitally signed.

When you run the File Signature Verification tool (Sigverif.exe), the system file list may indicate that all the system files on your computer are not digitally signed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you log on to your Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer with an account that only has Guest account permissions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
