To calibrate your Microsoft SideWinder game controller in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, use the following methods.

Method 1: Calibrate your game controller

You only have to calibrate your SideWinder game controller if you have an analog game controller such as a Microsoft SideWinder Standard or Microsoft SideWinder 3d Pro. You do not have to calibrate digital SideWinder game controllers such as the Precision Pro. If you have a digital SideWinder game controller, go to the next method.

To calibrate your SideWinder game controller, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type joy.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click the game controller that you want to use, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Settings tab, click Calibrate, and then click Next.
  4. Follow the steps that appear on the screen to complete the Device Calibration Wizard.
  5. On the Settings tab, test the axes and the buttons on your game controller to make sure that they function correctly, and then click OK.

Method 2: Configure your game controller in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

To configure your game controller in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, and then click TPHS 3 Configuration Utility.
  2. On the Controllers tab in the Device box, click the game controller that you want to use.
  3. Under Profile, click New.
  4. Under Axis Configuration, click Assign, and then follow the instructions that appear under Configure to calibrate your game controller.
  5. Under the Button Configuration box, click the action that you want to configure, click Assign, and then press a button on your game controller to assign the action to the button.
  6. When you are finished assigning game actions to buttons on your game controller, click OK.
  7. Start Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
  8. On the Main Menu, click Options, click Control config, click Primary control, click to select your game controller as the primary game controller, and then click Done.
