FIX: Microsoft Message Queuing service (Mqsvc.exe) exhausts its private bytes when the GetPrivateQueuesByMachine function is called (884046)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Message Queuing service (Mqsvc.exe) exhausts its private bytes.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when your Message Queuing client application makes repeated calls to the MessageQueue.GetPrivateQueuesByMachine function. These calls are made to retrieve a list of all private queues on a specified computer. Message Queuing does not have the deletion code that is required to remove the lists of private queues.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

To detect this problem, you can use Performance Monitor. Performance Monitor can monitor the value of the Private Bytes counter. The Private Bytes counter is in the Process object for the instance of mqsvc, also known as Message Queuing service.
