INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issues that are fixed in the Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated September 17, 2004.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

The hotfix package fixes the following issues:
  • 839640 You receive a "Search server has failed to service the queries for consecutive 30 secs due to mismatched CatID" error message when catalog IDs are mismatched in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

  • 841364 A search with a custom IFilter returns unexpected results on SharePoint Portal Server

Additionally, when you install both of the MSP files that are included in this hotfix package, you will also fix the issues that are described in the following article:
  • 883919 Description of the Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: September 17, 2004

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • Duplicate documents are returned in search result when your query includes the docsignature property in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

When you issue a query that tries to retrieve the docsignature property (urn:schemas.microsoft.com:fulltextqueryinfo:docsignature) that you included in the content index in SharePoint Portal Server 2003, duplicate documents may be returned in the search results.

This issue occurs because SharePoint Portal Server 2003 cannot retrieve the docsignature property to collapse duplicate search results.

If you are using Microsoft SQL Server as the back end for SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Start SQL Query Analyzer, and then connect to the instance of SQL Server that is specified in your configuration.
    2. In the database box, select the <portal_name>1_PROF database where <portal_name> is the name of the existing portal.
    3. On the File menu, click Open, locate the Profupdate.SQL file that is located in the temporary folder that you specified in step 1, and then click Open.
    4. On the Query menu, click Execute.
    5. When the query has finished running, on the File menu, click Exit.
If you are using Microsoft MSDE as the back end for SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
    3. At the command prompt, type osql -S <machineName>\SHAREPOINTPORTAL -d <portal_name>1_PROF -n -E -i <temporary_folder_path>\Profupdate.SQL where <machineName> is the computer name and <temporary_folder_path> is the temporary folder that you specified in step 1.
    4. When the query has finished running, at the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER.
