Only one record for one IP address is registered in the DNS server for a resource that has two IP addresses in a Windows Server 2003 cluster (883666)

SYMPTOMS

If one Network Name resource depends on two IP address resources that are in two different subnets in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 cluster, the following symptoms occur:

Only one record for one IP address is registered in the Domain Name System (DNS) server when the resource is brought online.
The two network adapters register DNS names to the same DNS server.

For example, you may have the following configuration:

IP1 Address resource = 192.168.0.40 / 255.255.255.0
IP2 Address resource = 210.210.210.0 / 255.255.255.0
Network Name resource = NetName

In this configuration, NetName depends on IP1 and on IP2. However, only IP2 is registered in the DNS server.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
