SYMPTOMS

When you open Windows Help and Support Center, and then you click Find information about the hardware installed on this computer, Windows Help and Support Center may stop responding.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one or more of the following alternative methods to find information about the hardware that is installed on your computer:
  • Click Start, click Run, type msinfo32.exe, and then click OK.
  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
  • In Help and Support Center, click What's new in Windows XP, click Tools, click Advanced System Information, and then click View Detailed System Information (Msinfo32.exe).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

If Help and Support Center stops responding, you can use Task Manager to quit the program. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.
  2. Click the Applications tab, and then click Help and Support Center in the Task list.
  3. Click End Task to quit the program.
