You cannot deploy an image of a dynamic disk by using Automated Deployment Services (ADS) 1.0 in Windows Server 2003 (883388)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to deploy an image of a dynamic disk by using Microsoft Automated Deployment Services (ADS) 1.0 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, the task may fail, and you may receive the following message:Job #.........: Number
Description...: Capture Volume
Status........: Failed
Destination...: TargetComputerName
Command.......: /IMAGING/imgbmdeploy.exe
Parameters....: Parameters
Exit Code.....: c1001005
Owner.........: Administrator
Start.........: Time
End...........: Time
Output:
Errors:
Unknown partition type
Time out when waiting for incoming connection.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if you convert the disk type to dynamic disk before you capture the image.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that the disk is a basic disk type before you deploy the image. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.
  2. Under Storage, click Disk Management.
  3. In the right pane, make sure that the disk type is Basic.

MORE INFORMATION

The Imgbmdeploy.exe tool supports only images that are based on a basic disk and are not based on a dynamic disk.
