SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), a Norton AntiVirus 2003 scan that is scheduled to run when your computer starts does not start.

CAUSE

Norton AntiVirus 2003 schedules startup tasks to run only when the user is logged on. When your computer starts, the task is triggered, but the task does not complete because you have not yet logged on.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, start Norton AntiVirus 2003 and run the scan manually.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
