INTRODUCTION

When you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, and the installation fails, the AutoRecovery feature in SP2 lets you remove the files that are left behind by the unsuccessful installation of the service pack.

Windows XP SP2 includes a built-in AutoRecovery feature that lets you recover from an interrupted or unsuccessful installation. If the installation of SP2 is not completed successfully, you receive the following message after you restart your computer and log on: The Windows Service Pack installation did not complete. This system is in an unstable state. Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs and choose to uninstall the Windows Service Pack, or contact your system administrator.You can then use the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel to remove the partial installation of SP2.
