Works: Works Spreadsheet starts and creates a blank spreadsheet when you try to create a blank database (873283)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 7.0
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2004

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a blank database in Microsoft Works 7.0 or in Microsoft Works Suite 2004, Microsoft Works Spreadsheet starts instead of Microsoft Works Database and creates a blank spreadsheet.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, delete the existing copy of the Wksdb.exe file from your hard disk, and then copy the program from the Microsoft Works 7.0 Setup CD or from the Microsoft Works Suite 2004 Standard Edition Setup CD 1. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Microsoft Works 7.0 Setup CD or the Microsoft Works Suite 2004 Standard Edition Setup CD 1 into the CD or DVD disk drive.
  2. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  3. For Microsoft Works 7.0, locate the CD drive, open the Files folder, and then open the MS Works folder.

    For Microsoft Works Suite 2004, locate the CD drive, open the MS Works folder, open the Files folder, and then open the MS Works folder.
  4. Right-click the Wksdb.exe file, and then click Copy.
  5. Open the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works

  6. Right-click the Wksdb.exe file, and then click Delete.
  7. Right-click the Microsoft Works folder, and then click Paste.
  8. Right-click the Wksdb.exe file, and then click Properties.
  9. Click to select the Read-only check box, and then click OK.
