You may receive an "HTTP:" error message when you try to open a Visio 2003 file or a Visio 2002 SR-1 file by using FrontPage 2003 (871001)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 to open a Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing or a Microsoft Visio 2002 SR-1 drawing, the file may not open in Microsoft Visio, and you may receive the following error message:

CAUSE

This problem may occur if Visio 2003 and Visio 2002 SR-1 generate multiple GET requests when you open a drawing by using HTTP.

Note This problem does not occur if you use a FrontPage 2003 disk-based Web site to open the Visio drawing.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, change the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\visio.exe\SaveURL registry subkey to a value of 0. To do this, follow these steps.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\visio.exe

  3. Right-click SaveURL, click Modify, type 0, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.
Note If you run the Detect and Repair feature in Visio, the value for this registry entry is reset to 1.
