The Internet Address template does not appear correctly after you upgrade to Exchange Server 2003 (870581)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server computer to the Chinese language edition of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, when you view the Chinese Traditional address templates, you notice that the Internet Address template is not updated to the localized Chinese language version. Additionally, you experience both of the following symptoms:
  • If you test the template, the template does not appear correctly.

Note To run the address template test, follow these steps:
    1. Start Exchange System Manager.
    2. Expand Recipients, expand Address Templates, and then click Chinese Traditional.
    3. In the right pane, right-click Internet Address, and then click Properties.
    4. Click Test.
  • If you view the Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file, you notice that the Exchange Setup program updated the address template files.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
  • You are running the Chinese language edition of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) together with the English language edition of Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3).
  • You upgrade Exchange by using the Chinese language edition of Exchange 2003.
This problem occurs because the addressEntryDisplayTable and originalDisplayTable attributes of the Exchange 2000 Internet Address template contain different data. Because the data is not the same in both of these attributes, the Exchange 2003 Setup program considers the Exchange 2000 Internet Address template to have been modified. Therefore, the Exchange 2003 Setup program does not update the user-visible fields of the Internet Address template. However, the Exchange 2003 Setup program does update the originalDisplayTable attribute in the Active Directory directory service.

Note This problem only occurs on an upgrade. If you install the Chinese language edition of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on the Chinese language edition of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP3 as an original install instead of as an upgrade of the English language edition of Exchange 2000 SP3, you receive the updated and localized Chinese language version Internet Address template.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, restore the Internet Address template to its "original" settings. This causes Exchange to restore the addressEntryDisplayTable attribute value from the information that is stored in the updated originalDisplayTable attribute. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Exchange System Manager.
  2. Expand Recipients, expand Address Templates, and then click Chinese Traditional.
  3. In the right pane, right-click Internet Address, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Templates tab, and then click Original.
  5. When you receive the following message, click Yes:Are you sure you want to overwrite all template controls with the original template?
  6. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
