SYMPTOMS

When you run an MS-DOS-based virtual machine on Microsoft Virtual Server 2005, the Virtual Server 2005 computer CPU usage may run at 99 percent.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because MS-DOS is an operating system that is designed as a single threaded process that has complete control over the CPU. Therefore, MS-DOS waits in an indefinite loop for user input such as a key press or mouse click.

RESOLUTION
