The Cluster service does not function correctly after you install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 324446 (840840)

SYMPTOMS

After you install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 324446 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server cluster, the Cluster service (Clussvc.exe) may experience an access violation during startup. In this scenario, all cluster functions stop, and all cluster resources are unavailable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the KB324446 hotfix, and then install the hotfix that is discussed later in the "Resolution" section. To remove the KB324446 hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the left navigation pane, click Change or Remove Programs, and then click Windows 2000 hotfix - KB324446 in the list of currently installed programs.
  4. Click Change or remove, and then follow the instructions to remove the hotfix.
