You cannot turn off the Detect and Repair feature in Clip Organizer for Office 2003 (840645)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Clip Organizer for Microsoft Office 2003, you cannot turn off the Detect and Repair feature.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there is no policy template available that will let you turn off the Detect and Repair feature for Clip Organizer.

RESOLUTION

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest Office 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

Service pack information

This problem is corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 2.

After you install the service pack, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of the article to set the DisableDetectandRepair registry key and to activate the hotfix.

After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the DisableDetectandRepair registry key and to activate the hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Office 2003 Service Pack 2.

To activate this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit your Office 2003 programs.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Clip organizer support three registry subkeys. If any one of these three registry subkeys has a value of 1, the Detect and Repair feature is turned off.

    Locate and then click to select one of the following registry subkeys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Clip Organizer

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Clip Organizer

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Clip Organizer

  4. Note If the Clip Organizer subkey does not exist, follow these steps to create the subkey:
    1. With the 11.0 subkey selected, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click Key.
    2. Type Clip Organizer, and then press ENTER.
  5. If the DisableDetectandRepair registry subkey DWORD value is not present in the registry subkey that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type DisableDetectandRepair, and then press ENTER.
  7. Right-click DisableDetectandRepair, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

    Note Repeat steps 4 to 9 for each registry subkey that is listed in step 4.
  9. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
