SUMMARY

In Microsoft Project for Windows, if a different work unit is entered for a resource assigned to a task but no change is made to the total work value (for example, 8h is re-entered as 1d), the change is ignored.

MORE INFORMATION

Project will only recalculate the work units of a resource when the total work has changed in the assignment.

For example, if you change the work units of a resource from 8h to 2d, then the "days" units will be recognized. If you change the work units of a resource from 2d to 16h, then the change will not be recognized since the total work of the resource remained the same.

This behavior is due to an optimization in the Project's calculation algorithm. Project will not allow a recalculation on a newly entered value if it is the same as the previous value. Changing the work units from days to hours is not considered a new value if the total is the same amount.
