Works: Printing the First Page Only of a Multipage Form Letter (84390)

This article was previously published under Q84390

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Works version 2.0 for Windows, you cannot print only the first page of a form letter for each record in a database by selecting the Pages option and specifying pages 1 to 1 in the Print dialog box. If you use this technique, only one page will print.

MORE INFORMATION

During a form letter merge, Works internally calculates page numbers for every page that will be generated. The internally calculated page number increments as the print job commences. For this reason, page 1 is actually the first page of the entire job.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create a new word processing document that contains only the first page of the multipage form letter using the following steps:

  1. Select the text on the first page of the existing form letter.
  2. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
  3. From the File menu, choose Open New File, and choose the Word Processor button.
  4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
  5. Make any necessary changes to the margins in the new document.
  6. From the File menu, choose Print Form Letters, select the All option in the Print dialog box, then choose the OK button.
