Rules that are in the Folder Assistant for public folders appear incomplete in Outlook 2002 (839856)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you try to edit a rule in the Folder Assistant that is located in a public folder in Microsoft Outlook 2002, the rule conditions may appear incomplete.

Note Although the rule conditions appear incomplete, the rule works as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you apply an advanced rule condition that checks for a particular form type and that filters a custom string attribute of a form that was published with Outlook 2002.

Note Filtering on any other type of attribute will not cause this behavior.

The custom string attribute of a form is published as PT_UNICODE if the form is published in Outlook 2002. However, when you create and save the rule, the string condition is saved as PT_STRING8. When you try to read the rule, a mismatch condition occurs, and the rule conditions do not appear as expected.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, publish the form that contains the custom string attribute in Microsoft Outlook 2000 to the public folder.

The custom string attribute is published as PT_STRING in Outlook 2000, and it appears complete in Outlook 2002.
