Links in the "See also" list in Windows Explorer do not work in Windows 2000 (839654)

SYMPTOMS

When you open Windows Explorer to view any folder on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, and you click the My Documents link, the My Network Places link, or the My Computer link in the See also list in the right pane, the corresponding folder does not open.

Additionally, if you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may experience the following behavior:
  • When you click the My Documents link, you receive the following error message:
    Cannot find 'file:///::%7B450d8fba-ad25-11d0-98a8-0800361b1103%7D'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
  • When you click the My Network Places link, you receive the following error message:
    Cannot find 'file:///::%7B208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D%7D'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have installed the MS03-048 November 2003 cumulative security update for Internet Explorer, or if you have installed the MS04-004 cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.
