The instructions to install IIS may be confusing in Visual Studio .NET (839549)

1. Locate and then open the Webserver.htm file on your computer:
   • If you have Visual Studio .NET 2003 installed on your computer, open the file from the following location:

     C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect 2003 - English\WebServer.htm

   • If you have Visual Studio .NET 2002 installed on your computer, open the file from the following location:

     C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Developer - English\WebServer.htm

2. Follow the steps that appear in the WebServer.htm file.
3. You are instructed to click a link to download the security updates for your computer from the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site:

   http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/security/

   However, when you click the link that appears in the instructions, you are redirected to the following MSDN Web site:

   http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/downloads/updates/security/default.aspx

4. On the "Security Updates" Web page, click the Windows XP Downloads page link in step 1 of the "Windows XP" section. You are redirected to the "Windows XP Professional downloads" Web page.
5. In the "Critical updates" section, click the Windows XP Service Pack 1a link. You are redirected to the "Windows XP Service Pack 1a" Web page.
   
   Note If you have Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on your computer, you do not have to install Windows XP SP1a.
6. On the "Windows XP Service Pack 1a" Web page, click the Express Installation link in the "Installing SP1a on your computer" section. You are redirected to the "Windows XP Service Pack 1a Express Installation" Web page.
7. On the "Windows XP Service Pack 1a Express Installation" Web page, click the Windows XP SP1a link. You are redirected to the Microsoft "Windows Update" Web site.
8. On the "Windows Update" Web site, follow these steps:
   1. Click the Scan for updates link.
   2. If your computer requires any critical updates, you will notice a Review and install updates link in the left pane. To install the critical updates, follow these steps:
      1. Click the Review and install updates link. The critical updates that your computer requires are listed on the Web page.
      2. Click Install Now to install all critical updates.
      If your computer does not require any critical updates, go to step 9.
9. To install IIS on your computer, follow the steps that appear in the WebServer.htm file that you opened in step 1.
10. After the IIS installation process has completed, visit the following Microsoft Web site to look for critical updates:

    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

11. On the "Windows Update" Web site, click Scan for updates. Notice that Q811114: Security Update (Windows XP or Windows XP Service Pack 1) is listed as a critical update.
12. Click Install Now to install this security update.
