You receive an error message when you install a Client Add Pack on your Small Business Server 2000-based computer (839504)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install a Client Add Pack on your Microsoft Small Business Server 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
This Client Add Pack disk cannot be used on this server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the value of the SBS45Bump registry entry is set incorrectly in Registry Editor.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, set the SBS45Bump DWORD value in the following registry subkey to 1:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business\SBS45Bump

To do this, follow these steps.

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Small Business

  3. In the details pane, click the SBS45Bump value.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data box, click Decimal under Base, and then click OK.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
