SYMPTOMSWhen daylight-saving time begins, your Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 users may experience both of the following symptoms: - Contact presence information is inconsistent.
- Instant messages are not delivered to contacts who appear to be available.
Note These problems do not persist for more than nine hours, and they are typically resolved within two hours. CAUSEThis problem occurs because Live Communications Server prematurely expires registration records and presence records when daylight-saving time begins.RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Hotfix installation informationYou must install this hotfix on each one of the Live Communications Server Home Servers in your organization. Note The installation of this hotfix automatically restarts the Live Communications Server service. Important Because existing backups of your Live Communications Server MSDE database files will not have this hotfix installed, back up your database files after you install this hotfix. If you do not back up your database files, you may inadvertently overwrite the changes that this hotfix makes if you restore your Live Communications Server database from a backup. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use one of the following methods.Method 1: Ignore this problemIf you do not have critical communications that require Live Communications Server, ignore this problem. Live Communications Server automatically recovers within nine hours, and the problems are typically resolved within two hours.Method 2: Sign out of Live Communications ServerRequest that users sign out of and then sign back in to Live Communications Server after daylight-saving time begins.
Note You can force all users to sign out of Live Communications Server by restarting the Live Communications Server service. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
