You receive a "SmarteSECURE has trapped a windows resource error" error message when you start Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna (839421)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna, you may receive the following error messages:
Error Code: 2
Couldn't register C:\DOCUME~1\username\LOCALS~1\Temp\DW27.tmp
Param 1: 0
Param 2: 0
SmarteSECURE has trapped a windows resource error. Please re-run the application.
Additionally, these error messages may occur when you start games other than Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna that were purchased through SoftwareToGo systems at CompUSA.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the game that you are starting has the SmarteSECURE copy protection schema built in to the CD-ROM. The game uses SmartSECURE copy protection to read information off of the disc.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of following methods for the parameters that appear in the error message.

Param 1:1, Param 2: 1812

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and then click OK.
  4. On the Disk Cleanup tab, click to select the Temporary files check box, and then click OK.
  5. When you are prompted to confirm deleting these files, click Yes.

Param 1: 0, Param 2: 0

  1. Log on by using an administrator user account.
  2. Install the game.
  3. Start, and then run the game by using the Microsoft Windows account that you used to install the game.
  4. Quit the game.
  5. Log off from that Windows account.
  6. Log on by using the Windows account that you are going to use to play the game, and then play game.
Note Some games require that you use an administrator account to play.
