IIS services unexpectedly restart on your Exchange Server 2003 computer (839418)

SYMPTOMS

On your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer, Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) services unexpectedly restarts. If you have the Dr. Watson tool set up as your default debugger, you can use it to analyze the User.dmp file. The analysis of the User.dmp file shows that an access violation occurred during a call to the Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 HrParse command.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart your computer after you install this hotfix. However, the following services are automatically stopped and then restarted during the hotfix installation:
  • World Wide Web Publishing Service
  • Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)
  • Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine
  • Microsoft Exchange POP3
  • Microsoft Exchange IMAP4
  • IIS Admin Service
