"Age of Empires II not found." error message when you try to install Age of Empires II Expansion: The Conquerors (838995)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Age of Empires II Expansion: The Conquerors, you may receive the following error message:
Age of Empires II not found. To install The Conquerors Expansion, you must have Age of Empires II installed.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if Microsoft Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings is not installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install Age of Empires II: Age of Kings before you install the expansion.

Note If you have Age of Empires II: Gold Edition 2.0, you must install the second disc that is labeled with blue print "Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings" before you install the first disc that is labeled "The Conquerors Expansion plus Gold Edition Content".
