Access violation in Spoolsv.exe may occur when you print from a custom application on a Windows 2000-based computer (837841)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use a custom-built application to print custom forms from a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, an access violation in Spoolsv.exe may occur.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a "race" condition occurs between a call to the DeviceCapabilities() function by the print spooler and the AddForm() function by the custom application. If the call to the AddForm () function occurs first, more forms may be generated than the spooler can handle, resulting in an access violation.
