The play count is incorrectly decremented when you save media whose license has a limited play count right (837648)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2

SYMPTOMS

The following sequence of events describes how you may receive two prompts to acquire a license:
  1. You use Microsoft Windows Media Player or you use the Windows Media Player Internet Explorer plug-in to locate and play a media file.
  2. You are directed to a Web site to acquire a license for the media. After you acquire the license, you may play the media file.
  3. You start to play the media file. During playback, you stop playback, and then you save the media file to your local hard disk.
  4. When you try to play back the media file that you saved to the hard disk, you are again directed to a Web site to acquire a license.

    This problem occurs if the original play count right was two (2).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the play count is incorrectly decremented when the media file is saved locally. The play count is incorrectly decremented for files that contain both a Content Encryption object and an Extended Content Encryption object.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

Prerequisites

This fix is supported only when all previously issued fixes for this product have also been installed.

Restart Requirement

You must perform a clean operation and rebuild the platform after you apply this fix. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this fix.
