FIX: Windows Explorer stops responding when Internet Explorer is missing from the platform (837433)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE Platform Builder 3.0

SYMPTOMS

All available memory on your computer may be used when the following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft Internet Explorer browser component is missing from the platform.
  • You type the address of a known file server in the Windows Explorer address bar.
  • You type the address of the file server by using the URL format. The URL format uses two slash marks (//). You do not use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format that uses two backslashes (\\).
When these conditions are true, Windows Explorer opens multiple windows until all memory is used.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows Explorer (instead of Internet Explorer) tries to handle the URL address when the Internet Explorer browser component is missing. Windows Explorer starts and tries to handle the URL address instead of generating an error message.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix Information

Prerequisites

This fix is supported only when all previously issued fixes for this product have also been installed.

Restart Requirement

After you install this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu.

Hotfix Replacement Information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
