You receive a "Failed to download... " 0x80190197 error message when you try to synchronize components on Software Update Services (836976)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Software Update Services, version 1.0, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows XP
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to synchronize components on Software Update Services, you may receive the following error message:
Failed to download from URL 'http://www.msus.windowsupdate.com/msus/v1/aurtf.cab' error 0x80190197: HTTP error 407 Need proxy authentication. - Aurtf.cab

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the server that is running Software Update Services has a firewall.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, change the properties of the Software Update Services to logon as a user who has rights to access the Internet through Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA).
