How to prevent Microsoft Virtual Machine for Java from being installed when you install Visual Studio 6.0 (835463)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft virtual machine
  • Microsoft Visual Studio, Professional Edition 6.0
  • Microsoft Visual Studio, Enterprise Edition 6.0

INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 requires that you have Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 and Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 or later installed on your computer to have access to the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) library Help files.

If Internet Explorer is not already present on the system, the Visual Studio Setup program will try to install it from installation CD 1 by running the Internet Explorer Setup program. The Internet Explorer Setup program automatically installs Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) for Java.

To avoid installing VM for Java on your computer, install Internet Explorer 6.0 before you install Visual Studio 6.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Visual Studio 6.0 depends on Microsoft HTML Help to display Help content and documentation. Because Internet Explorer 4.0 or later can parse and render HTML, dynamic HTML (DHTML), and images, Internet Explorer is the engine for HTML Help.

VM for Java is included with many Microsoft products and is available for download as an upgrade to an earlier Microsoft VM.
