The host computer and virtual machines intermittently lose network connectivity after you install Virtual PC 2004 (835357)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, your host computer may intermittently lose network connectivity. Additionally, virtual machines that you configure in Virtual PC 2004 may intermittently lose connectivity with external network connections that you have configured.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have the Sygate Personal Firewall program installed on the host computer. Sygate Personal Firewall is incompatible with the Virtual Machine Network Services driver in Virtual PC 2004. This incompatibility may cause the intermittent loss of network connectivity on the host computer and in virtual machines.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, contact Sygate Support & Services to inquire about a possible update to Sygate Personal Firewall. To contact Sygate Support & Services, visit the following Web site:

WORKAROUND

To temporarily work around this problem, permit the VMNetSrv driver "persistent access" in the Sygate Personal Firewall settings.
