Issues That Are Fixed in the Hotfix Package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package.
  • 834948 The Convert File dialog box does not appear when you open a document that was not saved as a Word document in Word 2003

  • 832858 Error message when you try to save a document, print a document, or quit Word 2003

  • 835227 Only the first occurrence of the NUMPAGES field in your Word 2003 document body is updated when you update fields

The following issues are also fixed in this hotfix package, but they were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.
  • When you press CTRL and repeatedly scroll through a document in Reading Layout view with thumbnail images displayed, the thumbnail images disappear and the document shows in the Thumbnails pane.
  • When you try to turn on the Allow row to break across pages option on the Row tab in Word (on the Table menu, click Table Properties), Word may quit unexpectedly, and then you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature that is similar to the following:
       AppName AppVer ModName ModVer Offset
       ------------------------------------------------------------
       Winword.exe 11.0.5604.0 Winword.exe 11.0.5604.0 0003b59f

This issue may occur when the table row contains vertical text in one table cell and a nested table in another table cell.

  • When you use Word as your e-mail editor in Microsoft Outlook, if you insert multiple attachments as hyperlinks in a Rich Text Format (RTF) e-mail message, the attachments (hyperlinks) do not appear separately. Instead, the hyperlinks appear merged together.
  • When you change the color quality of your display settings from Medium (16 bit) to Highest (32 bit) while Word is running, the Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI) may leak memory. This problem may occur when you change the color quality setting in Windows (right-click the Windows desktop, click Properties, and then click the Settings tab).
  • When you open a document, deleted text may appear as inserted text and inserted text may appear as deleted text. This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:
    • The document was received in an e-mail message that was edited on a Macintosh-based computer.
    • On the Mac computer where the e-mail message was edited, the Track Changes option turned on in Word.
    • On a Microsoft Windows-based computer, you merge the changes with the original document.

  • When you run your custom program that interfaces with Microsoft Word, you may receive a run-time error if your custom program numerates the add-ins collection in Word. This problem may occur if you installed the Web Authoring add-in (Html.wll) in Microsoft Word 97 and the add-in still appears in the Templates and Add-ins dialog box (on the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-ins).

Note When you install Microsoft Office Word 2003, the Web Authoring add-in is removed if it is installed and you are upgrading from Word 97, but the reference to the file Html.wll may not be removed from the Templates and Add-ins dialog box.
