Closing full-screen MS-DOS windows in Virtual PC virtual machine makes the virtual machine display unreadable (833419)

WORKAROUND

To prevent the virtual machine display from becoming unreadable, open MS-DOS windows without maximizing them.

If the virtual machine display becomes unreadable, use the following methods in the order that they are presented.

Method 1: Resize virtual machine window

Click the lower-left corner of the virtual machine window, and then drag the corner to change the virtual window size. When you change the window size, Virtual PC redraws the window. If this does not restore the screen, go to Method 2.

Method 2: Restart the virtual machine

To restart the virtual machine, follow these steps:

1. On the Action menu, click Close.
2. Click Shut down operating system and save changes, where operating system is the name of the guest operating system, and then click OK.

Method 3: Reduce the video acceleration

In the guest operating system, reduce the video acceleration for the display adapter in the display properties. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Display icon.
3. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
4. Click the Performance tab.
5. Move the Graphics Hardware Acceleration slide control to None.
