Delivery Status Notification messages contain an empty character set after you install the hotfix from Microsoft Knowledge Base article 819831 (833403)

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server

SYMPTOMS

After you install the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 819831 on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, all Delivery Status Notification (DSN) messages, such as non-delivery reports (NDR) or delivery reports, contain an empty character set.

The following is an example of an empty character set in a DSN message:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
