The Start button on the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 remote control does not function (833249)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004
SYMPTOMSYou cannot start Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
2004 by pressing the Start button on the Media Center remote
control. Additionally, the following remote control buttons do not function:
- Start
- Guide
- My TV
- My Music
- My Pictures
- My Videos
CAUSEThis problem occurs when you record a TV program from one
user account, and then switch to another user account by using the Windows XP
Fast User Switching feature. With the Fast User Switching feature, users can
switch sessions without closing Microsoft Windows, programs, and other
services. However, portions of Media Center are still in use by the first user,
and that causes Media Center to ignore when the buttons are pressed on the
remote control.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must quit and restart the
Media Center program. This will not stop the recording that was started by the
first user.
