The Offer Status Summarizer does not start in Systems Management Server 2003 or in Systems Management Server 2.0 (833169)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 or in Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003, the Offer Status Summarizer does not start, and the OfferSum.log file may log an error message that is similar to the following:
---->: This is a Secondary Site, the temporary datastore is: D:\SMS\inboxes\OfferSum.Box\data\OfferSum.dat Error: While initializing, no records of the proper type were found in the datastore. : The operation completed successfully.~~ ---->: The history was not old enough to need aging. ---->SMS_OFFER_STATUS_SUMMARIZER stopping. The exit code is 0xc000012d Error: Summarizer cannot continue and is stopping. The exit code is: 0xc000012d : The operation completed successfully.~~ STATMSG: ID=4518 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_OFFER_STATUS_SUMMARIZER" SYS=SUVA-DCI SITE=S05 PID=198 TID=93 GMTDATE=Wed Dec 01 08:08:51.359 1999 ISTR0="-1073741523" ISTR1="" ISTR2="" ISTR3="" ISTR4="" ISTR5="" ISTR6="" ISTR7="" ISTR8="" ISTR9="" NUMATTRS=0 SMS_OFFER_STATUS_SUMMARIZER stopped
The OfferSum.log file is located in the SMS\Logs folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, delete the OfferSum.dat file. This file is located in the SMS\Inboxes\OfferSum.Box\Data folder.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
