"Video Error" Error Message or Media Center Quits Unexpectedly When You Try to Play a DVD (832506)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a DVD into the DVD-ROM drive on your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition-based system, and then you press Play on your remote control device, you may receive a "Video Error" message in the Now Playing window. Or, Windows XP Media Center Edition may quit with an "Access Violation" error message.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you press Play less than five seconds after you insert your DVD.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem, wait more than five seconds after you insert your DVD before you press Play.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, quit and then restart the Media Center program if you receive the "Video Error" message.
