The IntelliPoint install program prompts you to remove previously installed mouse program (832320)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft IntelliPoint software 4.0
- Microsoft IntelliPoint Software 4.9
SYMPTOMSWhen you install Microsoft IntelliPoint on your computer,
you may receive a message that prompts you to remove a previously existing
installation of mouse software.CAUSEThis issue may occur when you have a previously existing
installation of mouse (or other pointing device) software on your computer.
Notebook computers typically have a program installed that is associated with
the integrated touchpad or other pointing device.RESOLUTIONWhen you install IntelliPoint, the choice to remove a
previously installed program is optional. If you are using Microsoft Windows
2000, or Microsoft Windows XP or later, removing the previously installed
program will not cause the device to become unusable most of the
time. If you do not want to remove the previously installed program,
do one of the following:
- Install IntelliPoint without removing the previously
installed program.
- Connect your Microsoft mouse to your computer, and then
test all mouse buttons and functions to determine if you have to install the
IntelliPoint program.
