Systems Management Server 2.0 clients do not report software inventory data to a new Systems Management Server 2003 site server (832110)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 site to SMS 2003, some clients may not report software inventory data to the new SMS 2003 site server.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You ran the Cliupgrade.exe utility from the SMS 2.0 Support Tools on the SMS client computers.
  • You used the /DISABLE switch when you ran Cliupgrade.exe.
The /DISABLE switch prevents Client Configuration Installation Manager (CCIM) on an SMS 2.0 client from upgrading the SMS client components. In this situation, the SMS 2.0 client is updated with the SMS 2003 site settings, but the client files are not updated. The client starts to report software inventory only after it is successfully upgraded.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, run the following command on the affected client computers:

Cliupgrade.exe /ENABLE

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
