box is selected.CAUSEThe HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings\EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote
registry sub-key is not created when Microsoft Windows XP is installed. By
default, the check box is initially selected. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, use either of the following
methods. Method 1Click to clear, and then click to select the Show
informational notifications for network printers check box. To do
this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click
Printers and Faxes.
- On the File menu, click Server
Properties.
- In the Print Server Properties dialog box,
click the Advanced tab, and then click to clear the
Show informational notifications for network printers check
box.
- Click to select the Show informational
notifications for network printers check box, and then click
OK.
Note When you click to clear, and then click to select the
Show informational notifications for network printers check
box, Windows creates the following two registry sub-keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings\EnableBalloonNotificationsLocal HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings\EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote Method 2 Create the Registry sub-keys manually. To do this, follow these
steps: Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. - Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Run dialog box, type
regedit, and then click OK.
- In Registry Editor, locate the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings
sub-key.
- On the Edit menu, point to
New, and then click DWORD value.
- Type
EnableBalloonNotificationsLocal, and then press
ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, point to
New, and then click DWORD value.
- Type
EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote, and then press
ENTER.
- Double-click the entry that you created in step
7.
- In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type
1, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click
Exit.
