Shared Folder Name Changes to "Network Drive" After You Restart Virtual Machine (831517)

SYMPTOMS

When you share one or more folders from a Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 virtual machine, if you exit and then restart the virtual machine, the names of the shared folders change to "Network Drive" in My Computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because your virtual machine has either Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed as the guest operating system, and the physical computer is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1-based.

If you right-click the folder, and then click Properties, the name of the shared folder is visible.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
