You Cannot Drag Files Directly Between Virtual Machines (831508)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC 2004

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to drag files from one Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 virtual machine to another virtual machine even though you have installed Virtual Machine Additions on both virtual machines.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 does not support the dragging of files directly between virtual machines.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, drag the file that you want to copy from your virtual machine to the desktop of your host computer, and then drag the file from your host computer to the virtual machine where you want to copy the file.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
