"MSIEXEC caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL" error message when you try to install Visio 2002 (831320)

SUMMARY

When you try to install Microsoft Visio 2002, the Setup program quits and you receive the following error message:
MSIEXEC caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Setup program is interrupted--for example, by removing and re-inserting the Visio 2002 CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Visio 2002 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, click Run, and then type CDDriveLetter: Visio.msi in the Open box.
  3. Click OK.
Note In step 2, CDDriveLetter refers to the letter that designates your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Frequently, the letter that designates your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive is the letter D.
