"This document template does not exist" error message when you try to create a new document that is based on a template that is contained in a Web folder in Word 2000 (831120)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2000, when you try to create a new document that is based on a template that is contained in a Web folder, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
  • When you double-click the template (*.dot), you receive the following error message and your new document does not open:
    This document template does not exist.
  • When you try to run a macro to create a new document that is based on the template, you receive the following error message:
    Run-time error '5137': This document template does not exist.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if Word 2000 cannot link to templates that are located in a Web folder. You can only create documents that are based on a template in a Web folder in Microsoft Word 2002 and later.
