Cannot Create a Mapped Drive to a Password-Protected Shared Folder a Second Time (830889)

SYMPTOMS

After you connect to a server from a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based client computer and then create a mapped drive to a password-protected shared folder, if you try to create a mapped drive a second time, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
System Error 1312 occurred. A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.
This problem occurs if the server is an IBM AIX-based server that is running AIX Fast Connect.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
