"Invalid Format" Message Appears in the Body of Messages That Are Logged by the IM Archiving Service in Live Communications Server 2003 (830545)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you view messages in the IM Archiving Service message archive on a computer that is running Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003, you may notice that the bodies of those messages contain only the following information:The original message is in an invalid format and can't be logged.CAUSEThis behavior occurs if users use an instant messaging client that does not encode the message body in the UCS Transformation Format 8 (UTF-8) character set.
If you use an instant messaging client program that does not encode the message body in the UTF-8 character set, the IM Archiving Service still records the messages that are sent between users. However, the information in the bodies of these messages is replaced by the following: The original message is in an invalid format and can't be logged.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, install an instant messaging client program such as Microsoft Windows Messenger. This program encodes the message body in the UTF-8 character set. The IM Archiving Service then records the message body information successfully.
