SUMMARY

Microsoft has released an update to Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR1). Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Visio 2000. This update contains security enhancements and stability improvements. This update applies only to Visio 2000 SR1. This update also contains updates that were released after Visio 2000 SR1.

How to download and install the update

Important Before you install this update, make sure that you meet the following requirement:
  • Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR1)
    To install this update, you must have the Visio 2000 SR1.

    Note The Visio 2000 SR1 is no longer available through the Microsoft Order Desk as of January 1, 2004. Additionally, this update is not available for download from a Microsoft Web site.

Single computer update

To download and install the update on a single computer, follow these steps:
  1. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

    Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
    Note To obtain a localized client version of Visio 2000 SP2, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  2. Click Open to start the download and installation of Visio 2000 SP2.
  3. If you are prompted to install the update, click Yes.
  4. Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
  5. When you receive a message that indicates that the installation was successful, click OK.
Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to an installation before the update was installed, you must remove Visio 2000, and then install it again from the original CD-ROM.

Administrative update

If you installed Visio 2000 from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative update and deploy that update to your computer.

If you are the server administrator, follow these steps to download the administrative update.

Note This update will update an administrative installation point that has been applied with the silent installation version of Visio 2000. An administrative installation point can only be created by using an unattended installation.
  1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, create a folder on drive C, and then name the folder kb830243.
  2. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

  4. Click Start, and then click Run.
  5. In the Open box, type the following text where language version is the language identifier of the installation file that you downloaded previously, and then click OK:

    Visio2000-kb830243-fullfile-language version.exe /t:c:\kb830243 /c /q

    For example, if you downloaded the English version of this update, in the Open box, type Visio2000-kb830243-fullfile-enu.exe /t:c:\kb830243 /c /q, and then click OK.
  6. In the extracted files folder (C:\kb830243), rename the following files:

  8. On the client workstation where you want to deploy the update, click Start, and then click Run.

    Type the following command in the Open box:

    msiexec /i AdminPath\MSI File /qb REINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=emu

    In this command, Admin Path is the path of your administrative installation point for Visio 2000, MSI File is the MSI database package for Visio 2000 (for example, Vis2000.msi), and FeatureList is the list of feature names (case sensitive) that have to be reinstalled for the update. To install features, you can use REINSTALL=ALL or you can install the following features depending on your version of Visio 2000:

How to determine whether the update is installed

To determine the version of Visio 2000 that is installed on your computer, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. In the Search Results pane, under Search Companion, click All files and folders.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Visio32.exe, and then click Search.
  4. In the list of files, right-click Visio32.exe, and then click Properties.
  5. On the Version tab, determine the version of Visio 2000 that is installed on your computer.

The Visio 2000 SP2 fixes the following issues that were previously not documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

A gap may appear between the shape and the bounding box around the shape

When you insert or open a Microsoft Visio drawing that contains a Microsoft Windows Metafile (WMF), a gap may appear between the shape and the bounding box around the shape.

The number of custom colors increases with every use

Every time that you use a custom color in Visio 2000, the custom color is added again to the custom color palette. This causes the number of custom colors on the custom color palette to increase every time that you use a custom color.

The attribute layer text of AutoCAD file is not converted in Visio 2000 SR1

When you open an AutoCAD drawing in Visio 2000 SR1, the attribute layer text is not converted.

Database Model Diagram may not appear correctly

In Visio 2000, if the column names of Entities are double-byte characters, Database Model Diagrams may not appear correctly when all the following conditions are true:
  • The column Conceptual Name or Physical Name of Entities is using double-byte character set (DBCS).
  • The column is set as PK (Primary Key).
  • Symbol Set is set as Relational on the General tab (on the Database menu, click Document Options).
  • Names visible on diagram on the General tab (on the Database menu, click Document Options) is set to the column name that is using DBCS.
  • Data types on the Table tab (on the Database menu, click Document Options) is set to Show physical or is set to Show portable.
