Inconsistent Results for Finish Date When You Create a Gantt Chart with the Import Project Data Wizard (830197)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, if you create a Gantt chart by using the Import Project Data Wizard, and then you choose to generate your project schedule from information that is stored in a Microsoft Excel file, the finish date of your project may not be calculated correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you include a time in the Start Date box or in the Finish Date box in your Microsoft Excel worksheet.

RESOLUTION

When you import data from an Excel worksheet by using the Import Project Data Wizard, if you click the Information that's already stored in a file option, make sure that the Excel worksheet that you choose to import does not contain a time in the Start Date box or in the Finish Date box.

If you click the Information that I enter using the wizard option to create your project schedule from information that you type in an Excel worksheet, change the sample times that appear in the Start Date box and in the Finish Date box to 12:00:00 AM (the time appears as 0:00).

MORE INFORMATION

To use the Import Project Data Wizard, click Import on the Gantt Chart menu.
